Please note that while we welcome day visitors wanting to hike, we only allow day guests to hike from between 8 am and 5 pm.

We have the easier trails for those looking for a relaxed introduction to hiking or who have children and then we have the more difficult trails for those who have a little more experience and who are in search of a challenge.

The hiking trails will take you through the gorges, the forests and the rock pools that are hidden away in the vast landscape that surrounds Bermanzi. During any of your hikes, you might be lucky enough to spot some of the local wildlife! This area is home to bushbuck, kudu, and mountain reedbuck. As for the vegetation, kiepersol and yellowwood trees make up the forests and provide shade for hikers.
The Bermanzi Two Day Hiking Experience
This is our most popular hiking trail simply because it is the ideal trail for people of all kinds. It has a low difficulty and is quite easy to complete. This hiking trail is perfect for group visits and we happily accommodate church groups, school children and corporate retreats. The groups of guests who will be embarking on the Bermanzi Two-Day Hiking Experience can be comfortably accommodated in The Stables.
2 Day Bundu Backpackers Hiking Trail
A real Bundu experience in pure Nature.
You bring your own small tent and camp one night in the indigenous woods next to the stream.
First night you sleep at The Stables where you can braai around a campfire in a boma.

Day 1: 12km
It starts on the edge of the escarpment in the ox wagon road, gradually descending through an impressive large rock crack, rapidly changing scenes of krans, bush and mountain streams. It follows the contour also used by bushbuck, kudu and mountain reedbucks with beautiful views over the Komati Valley below.
Joining the wagon road again it steeply descends into the gorge through the indigenous forest with a great variety of trees and bird life as well as cultural and historical sites. Along the Bank Spruit it leads to several natural swimming pools and picnic spots. Then ascending again towards the foot of the second highest waterfall in Mpumalanga – a memorable sight indeed.
From here it is uphill, through the San cave, past the giant yellow tree until the end of the escarpment to view the waterfall from above and the Komati Gorge underneath.
Day 2: 4km – 8km

Hikers will be accommodated in the beautifully renovated, old traditional stables. The Stables has several rooms with bunkbeds and mattresses that can accommodate up to 46 hikers. Bring own bedding, sleeping bags and pillows

- Opsaal Room: 20 Hikers, 14 beds and a loft with 6 mattresses
- Afsaal Room: 7 Hikers
- Kapkar Room: 10 Hikers
- There is a large covered veranda.

- Big kitchen with anthracite stove.

- Uitspan Room: 3 Single beds, own bathroom

- Big kitchen with microwave, fridge
- Electricity, 2-plate electric stove
- Cooking utensils provided
- Bring own cutlery and crockery
