Just a short drive away from Pretoria, you will find an adventurer’s haven in Buffalo Gorge Eco-Adventure Hiking Trail. An ideal place where Eco- hiking trails, 4×4,Quads safaris, horse riding (novices are welcome), pony rides, 15m & 50m abseiling, bird watching, trail running, mountain biking, nature walks and rock climbing will let any adventurer’s heart jump with joy.

Buffalo Gorge Eco-Adventure Hiking Trail is situated on a farm approximately 36km north of Middelburg, Mpumalanga on the Groblersdal N11 road towards Loskopdam, in the beautiful natural wilderness. At Buffalo Gorge Eco-Adventure Hiking trail, you can experience the best quality, life-changing get-away with scenic views such as small spring waterfalls, rock formations and wetlands, all of which is ideal for recreation and environmental education. As far as facilities are concerned, this one star rated rustic bush camp consists of a 16 man tent, four spacious 6 man tents and 14 four man dome tents (mattresses supplied) as well as 20 private cleared campsites for your own tents and caravans.

Trails

For the hikers, Buffalo Gorge Eco Adventure Hiking Trail offer 6 different routes. These routes vary in distances, to cater for all fitness levels. These routes take you through grasslands, wetlands, bushveld and riverine forests; incorporating fauna and flora; for a great experience.

The White Trail

The White trail covers a distance of 12 or 15 km and is a great opportunity to explore the different ecozones of the farm. It cuts through a dense indigenous forest and past interesting rock formations, crossing several streams before reaching a savannah area. It then follows the edge of the escarpment, dips into a deep donga (home of hundreds of Bee-eaters) and winds back to the base camp across some flats. On the way, you could see Kudu, Klipspringer, Duiker, Warthog and Baboon.

The Orange Trail

The Orange trail is a 90-minute walk through the indigenous forest – very scenic!

The Yellow Trail

The Yellow trail is a 1-3 hour walk which takes you to the top of the plateau and back via one of three options.

The Blue Trail

The Blue trail is particularly suitable for beginners and combines several interests such as hiking, abseiling, horse riding and tree identification.

Hikers can also enjoy a diverse Bird live on Buffalo Gorge. Over 80 species of birds have been seen over one weekend. The White Fronted Bee-eater roosts in the donga and the Black Eagles soar over the mountain.

Buffalo Gorge boasts with more than 80 species of indigenous trees. The growth of some of these trees has resulted in natural bonsai.

Accommodation

A 12m Bamboes Boma protected from the elements, jetmaster fireplace & Eskom power ideal for conferences, bush weddings and family get-togethers. Tables & chairs are available. A canvas tent pitched in a beautiful private nook of the camp provides a romantic Bush Honeymoon for newlyweds.

There is a fully equipped communal bush kitchen (Boskombuis), with fridge and freezer facilities. Ablution facilities, as well as hot showers, will enhance your visit. Buffalo Gorge also promotes healthy living among youngsters through Eco-adventure and training in a beautiful natural setting.
