About

The name Naufkluft is derived from German meaning ‘narrow ravine’ and forms part of the Namib Naukluft National Park. Massive rock formations makes Naukluft a Geologist’s paradise!

Naukluft Hiking Trails covers approximately 120km and is a circular 8-day route. There is an option to hike the first half only (4 days). The 1st 4 days are moderate whilst the last 4 days are classified as more difficult. This trail is for the more experienced and extremely fit hiker and a medical certificate needs to be obtained prior to doing the hike. Don’t underestimate this hike. Those scared of heights must think twice before doing the hike.

A valid passport is needed is you are not a Namibian citizen.
At least 2 litres of water per day is needed. There are water points.
Sturdy hiking boots is an absolute must.
A medical certificate is a pre-requirement

The Naukluft hike runs from March to October, on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, for the first 3 weeks of each month only.

Minimum group size: 3 people.
Maximum group size: 12 people.

Hikers must be 12 years of age or older to do the Hike.
There is no maximum age limit as long as the individual meets the physical requirements.

The hike takes an average 8 days to complete (there is the option of a shorter hike of 4 days). There is the option to drop a resupply at the fourth stopover point (Tsams Ost).
